Playlist 2016 Week 3: Megadeth, Charred Walls of the Damned, Anthrax, Zakk Wylde, Whiskey Myers

Week 3 of my 2016 playlist goes from heavy sounds to brutal imagery before ending on a happier note with a little Southern rock.

"Bullet to the Brain," Megadeth. Another classic thrash band makes the list. I'll admit this record had to grow on me quite a bit. I didn't like it at first, but at the end of the year it has a shot at cracking my year-end list.

"The Soulless," Charred Walls of the Damned. I'm an admitted fanboy of Tim "Ripper" Owens, and he's in fine form on the latest release from Charred Walls of the Damned. Don't let the blast beats at the beginning fool you. This is a very melodic tune, as is the rest of the album, but Richard Christy has to show off every now and then, right?

"Blood Eagle Wings," Anthrax. The first repeat act on the playlist is, no surprise, Anthrax. This song features one of the more brutal videos that I've ever seen, and it's just a fantastic tune, too.

"Sleeping Dogs," Zakk Wylde. Book of Shadows II didn't hold up as well as I'd hoped it would through the course of the year. I still think there are a few great songs, particularly this one.

"Lightning Bugs and Rain," Whiskey Myers. Closing this week out with a little feel-good Southern rock. I don't think Mud is quite as strong as their last outing, but still a great record.
